In 2006, forty enthusiastic anglers took to the water for the 1st Annual Fishing for Kids Tournament at the West Coast Fishing Club. Among them were business and community leaders who were determined to make a meaningful impact through charitable giving. With the breathtaking beauty of the Haida Gwaii as a backdrop, this small but determined group raised an incredible $475,000 in prize money. One-hundred percent of the purse was gifted back to the tournament for distribution to the beneficiaries, establishing the legacy of generosity that has become synonymous with the event. Since then, the Fishing for Kids Tournament at the West Coast Fishing Club, has raised an over $3 million for BC's special and in-need children. The generosity of participants who return year after year and carry on the tradition of giving, symbolizes the true spirit of our Tournament. This year's guests include the Honourable Senator Larry Campbell, Vancouver Canucks owners Paolo and Francesco Aquilini, Team President Mike Gillis, Vancouver Canucks' Manny Malholtra and culinary superstar chef David Hawksworth. Also returning is the 2010 Tournament winner, LA Kings defense man, Willie Mitchell. |
