Ronan was born at 25 weeks gestation on September 26, 2000, almost four months before he was due. He weighed 720 grams (1 pound 10 ounces) and easily fit in one hand. After five months in the Special Care Nursery at BC Children’s Hospital, Ronan came home, still dependant on an oxygen machine. As Ronan developed he faced multiple issues related to his prematurity including vision loss, hearing loss, speech and learning disorders as well as an oral aversion that caused him to vomit multiple times a day. At the age of eight Ronan was diagnosed with autism which presented additional challenges. With all that he faces Ronan is able to embrace life and make continuous progress.
Ronan was invited to represent the Canucks Autism Network at the 2010 Fishing for Kids Fundraising Tournament. Ronan was accompanied by his dad and the two had a wonderful time and were tremendously thankful to all those who made the event possible.
