The Tournament
Tournament History
The Fishing for Kids Fundraising Tournament is held annually at the Clubhouse, one of the West Coast Fishing Club's luxurious fishing lodges, located on Langara Island in the naturally spectacular Queen Charlotte Islands. Since its inception in 2006, the tournament has raised over $1.7 million to date for BC – based children's charities.
Founding members Al Cloke, Dave Sharples, Brian Grange and owner of the West Coast Fishing Club, Brian Legge are still involved, as the tournament enters its fifth year. Two of our most valued event sponsors Bruce Knight from SMS Equipment and Mike Ranallo from Komatsu, have been an instrumental part of getting the event to this stage. As the years progressed, others joined in helping the event to grow, including Scott Lyons of Ledcor Equipment.
Celebrity competitors who returned for the 2009 event include Vancouver Canucks defenceman and Canucks' Autism Network Spokesman, Willie Mitchell and international culinary star, David Hawksworth.
While supporting local causes, the Fishing for Kids Fundraising Tournament presents keen and talented anglers with the chance to win over $150,000 in prizes. Fishing for Kids is a unique event in many ways, particularly due to all prize winnings over the history of the tournament, being generously re-donated by winning participants to our beneficiaries.
